Announcing FREMONT

by .

Finally the day has come! Today Kohl are delighted to announce the company’s debut title and author - Fremont by Elizabeth Reeder. The book will be published in eBook and paperback in October 2012.  And because she’s the eloquent one, we’ve put together a short film of Elizabeth telling you more about her book:

Fremont is an epic tale about the Fremonts, an extraordinary family living in a dusty nameless state in the United States. Struggling for identity amidst an ever-growing brood and in a small suspicious town, each Fremont strives to carve out his or her own place in a home filled with  prejudice, love and curious happenings. The novel is subtle, original and beautifully written, and covers themes of identity, betrayal and inequality.

Originally from Chicago, Elizabeth now lives in Glasgow, Scotland. She has a PhD in English Literature (Creative Writing) and teaches on the Creative Writing Programme at University of Glasgow. Her first novel, Ramshackle, was published by Freight Books in April 2012 and has received high critical praise:

‘There has been a buzz about Elizabeth Reeder’s writing for several years now in Scottish writing circles. Ramshackle is knowing, wry and affectionate, using packed and punchy sentences which illuminate and delight.’ Alan Warner

‘Ramshackle deserves a place in the bestseller charts: a novel that deals with the primal fear of abandonment and portrays it through a vividly realised 15-year-old girl we can’t help but identify with.’ The Herald

‘Ramshackle is not an easy novel to read – it is painful, intense and full of human anguish. But it is nevertheless a gem of a debut, and one which should earn Reeder some well-earned acclaim.’ Scotland on Sunday

Kohl Publishing will officially launch during Edinburgh International Book Festival during August. We’ll be inviting all our readers to come along and meet us and Elizabeth. Times and dates to be announced via our first e-Newsletter next month.

We have lots of exciting plans for Fremont, including a book jacket poll which allows you to vote on the final book cover and an exclusive pre-publication release of the book. Don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list, Kohl eNews, on the homepage to keep up-to-date with news and receive exclusive content, giveaways,  launch invites and video content.

As Elizabeth is our first author, a lot of the first steps this book has taken have also been our own first steps as publishers. For the next week, we’re going to post short pieces on the story of creating the book, and we’ll add updates as we count down to October 2012.  Read our first feature Binding words; signing up our first author, which describes the contractual process of signing up authors.

We’re hosting an ‘Author Hour’ on Twitter this evening (31 May 2012) between 5-6pm, come along and chat to Elizabeth Reeder.
